My writer friend, Judith Post, who is savvy about social media, invited me to be interviewed on her blog. http://writingmusings.com/ She gave me a number of questions which I thought would be easy enough to answer. I recommend any writer to consider answering the questions because they will stretch your mind. Not only did I have to think through my answers, but I had to answer them clearly. It was a mental adventure.
1. Your background has helped shape your writing. Would you care to tell us a little about yourself?
2. You have a unique [southern] voice. What do you consider special about your writing?
3. How would you describe voice?
4. What do you look for in good writing?
5. Who are your 2 favorite authors? (You can list more) And what are your all-time, favorite books?
6. What attracted you to your genre?
7. What appeals to you about plays?
If you take these questions seriously, you’ll find that you won’t just dash off answers. The more you think about them, the more you will discover about yourself. Judy Post has been involved in the Summit City Scribes writers’ group for years, and she’s always searching to better understand the writing process, encourage other writers, and get a handle on modern marketing techniques. One thing I’ve learned about myself is that I’m not good at marketing. It’s not in my nature, but she’s the one who talked me into writing a blog. Whereas she writes a weekly blog, I try to get out one a month.
But if you’re not a writer, maybe your spring project or adventure will be something different—planning a new garden idea, learning a new sport or dance, or sorting out all the recipes or photographs kept stuffed in a shoe box. I have a friend who is taking a cruise down the Amazon River this March. “It’s something I’ve always wanted to do,” she said. Talk about adventure!
I now declare winter to be over, in spite of the six inches of snow outside. Let it be…. March madness will soon be upon us, but right now it’s time to read a good book, see a play or concert, plan a little dinner with friends, and write a letter --yeah, the old-fashion way with pen and paper, an envelope, and a stamp. Put it in the mailbox. In this era of mostly junk mail and texting, it’ll knock the socks off of some lucky person.
